Presenting the 2021 CCHS Student of the Year

Nyla Buie

Senior of the Year Application Process

The Cedar Crest High School Senior of the Year is a student who, first and foremost, is a leader of his/her peers.  The student is strong academically, well-respected by staff and peers, active in extra-curricular and/or co-curricular activities, and represents our school and community in a positive way.

This year’s process began with a luncheon for 44 seniors who were nominated by the staff.  During the luncheon each senior was given the opportunity to talk a little about himself or herself and to have a conversation with CLSD administration.  After the luncheon, 33 of the 44 seniors decided to move forward in the process and complete an application to become the CCHS Senior of the Year.

The official first round of the process included all CCHS staff members reviewing the 33 applications and submitting a ranking of the Top 10 to the CCHS principal.  This round narrowed the process to the Top 8 seniors who moved on to Round Two.

In Round Two CCHS staff members came together to share their positive experiences with each senior.  Following the discussion, each staff member voted for their Top 3 which identified the three finalists who were moving on to the final round.  The Final Round saw each finalist participate in an interview with the CCHS principals as well as a building-wide vote occurred for the staff to select their Senior of the Year.  The Senior of the Year was selected based on the interview and the building-wide vote.
